ANAHEIM, Calif. (AP) - David Freese hit a tiebreaking homer off Joba Chamberlain in the eighth inning as the Los Angeles Angels beat the Detroit Tigers 2-1 yesterday. Erick Aybar scored from second base on Rick Porcello's poor pickoff throw in the fifth for the Angels. Victor Martinez had an RBI double in the first inning for the Tigers.

ALLEN PARK, Mich. (AP) - The Detroit Lions are beginning training camp under another new coach. The Lions haven't won their division since 1993 and have only one playoff victory since winning the 1957 NFL title. There will be plenty of urgency for this team in Jim Caldwell's first season as Lions coach.

INDIANAPOLIS (AP) - Jeff Gordon slid past Kasey Kahne to win his NASCAR-record fifth win at the Brickyard 400 yesterday. The victory comes on the 20th anniversary of Gordon's win in the inaugural Brickyard 400. The win moves Gordon into a tie with Michael Schumacher. His five Formula One victories at Indy had been the gold standard.

INDIANAPOLIS (AP) - Juan Pablo Montoya and Brad Keselowski came to the Brickyard 400 to finally put Roger Penske in Victory Lane. But the tag-team tandem of 2000 Indy 500 winner Montoya and 2012 Cup champ Keselowski never made a serious run at the leaders. Keselowski overcame a frustrating day to finish 12th. Montoya ended up 23rd.
