DETROIT (AP) - Matt Johnson's career-high five touchdown passes carried Bowling Green to a 47-27 upset of No. 16 Northern Illinois in the Mid-American Conference title game. The Falcons captured their first MAC title since 1992 and ended the Huskies' shot at playing in a marquee bowl game. Jordan Lynch ran for 126 yards and two TDs for the Huskies to break his own single-season record for yards rushing by a quarterback in major college football.
ATLANTA (AP) - Kyle Korver set the NBA record for consecutive games with a 3-pointer in Atlanta's 108-89 win over the Cavaliers last night. Korver has hit 3-pointers in 90 straight games, breaking the record held by Dana Barros. Dion Waiters scored a season-high 30 points for the Cavaliers. Andrew Bynum tied his season high with 20 points and grabbed a season-best 13 rebounds for Cleveland. Kyrie Irving was held scoreless.
COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) - and Curtis McElhinney posted his first shutout since 2011 in leading the Columbus Blue Jackets to a 4-0 victory over the Minnesota Wild last night. McElhinney made 20 saves in his first shutout since Feb. 5, 2011, while with the Anaheim Ducks. Cam Atkinson, Nick Foligno, Boone Jenner and R.J. Umberger each scored for the Blue Jackets.
INDIANAPOLIS (AP) - Ohio State right guard Marcus Hall won't start tonight's Big Ten championship game. Coach Urban Meyer won't say how long Hall will sit when the No. 2 Buckeyes meet No. 10 Michigan State. The move comes less than a week after Hall was involved in a scuffle at archrival Michigan.
CANTON, Ohio (AP) - Loveland captured its first state title with a 41-23 win over Cleveland Glenville 41-23 in the Ohio Division II high school football final last night. The Loveland defense forced seven turnovers in their first finals appearance. The Tigers scored 34 points off Glenville miscues.
MASSILLON, Ohio (AP) - Clarksville Clinton-Massie rallied for a 27-21 win over Youngstown Cardinal Mooney to capture Ohio's Division IV title for the second straight year. Bayle Wolf rushed for 172 yards on 33 carries and scored the game-winner on a 2-yard run with a little over a minute left to play. His brother Chase had 91 yards on 20 carries.
CANTON, Ohio (AP) - Kirtland's offense piled up 588 yards in a 44-16 romp over Wayne Trace in Ohio's Division VI final. Adam Hess rushed 177 yards on 22 carries and scored two touchdowns. Sam Kukura added 196 yards and a score for the Hornets, who have won 44 of their last 45 games.
BEREA, Ohio (AP) - Browns defensive end Desmond Bryant has undergone a successful procedure to correct an irregular heartbeat. Although his season is over Bryant is expected to make a full recovery and resume his NFL career. Bryant was one of Cleveland's biggest offseason acquisitions, signing a five-year, $34 million contract in March.
