CINCINNATI (AP) - The Cincinnati Reds beat the Chicago Cubs 7-2 yesterday. Billy Hamilton stole his 51st base and the Reds swiped six in all. Zack Cozart and Todd Frazier each stole twice, and Kristopher Negron added one more. Dylan Axelrod pitched five scoreless innings of two-hit ball and struck out eight.
CHICAGO (AP) - The Cleveland Indians beat the Chicago White Sox 3-2 last night. Carlos Carrasco pitched into the seventh inning, and Michael Bourn had two triples among his three hits. Jason Kipnis and Michael Brantley each singled in a run for the Indians, who have won four of five and 11 of 16 overall to remain in the hunt for an AL wild card.
CHICAGO (AP) - The New York Yankees have acquired left-hander Josh Outman in a trade with the Cleveland Indians. Outman has spent time with the Indians and Triple-A Columbus this season. He was in the minors at the time of the deal. The Indians will receive a player to be named or cash.
CINCINNATI (AP) - The Cincinnati Bengals beat the Indianapolis Colts 35-7 last night. Rookie Jeremy Hill ran for 90 yards and was Cincinnati's top receiver as well. Bengals quarterback Andy Dalton and Colts quarterback Andrew Luck sat it out, as did most of the starters for both teams.
CLEVELAND (AP) - The Cleveland Browns beat the Chicago Bears 33-13 last night. Brian Hoyer drove Cleveland's starting offense to a touchdown before turning things over to rookie Johnny Manziel. The Browns needed a boost after struggling in the preseason as they learn a new system.
CLEVELAND (AP) - A person familiar with Josh Gordon's situation tells The Associated Press on condition of anonymity that the suspended wide receiver wants to play in the Canadian Football League, but is prohibited from doing so. Under CFL rules, a player suspended by the NFL and under contract is not eligible to play in Canada. If the Cleveland Browns release Gordon, he would be able to play elsewhere.
CLEVELAND (AP) - Browns rookie quarterback Johnny Manziel is channeling his inner aerobics instructor in a new TV commercial for Snickers, one of the products he endorses. In the new 30-second spot, Manziel is teaching the class when a Cleveland player tells him he's not acting like himself. Once he bites into the candy bar, he's back to being Manziel.
AKRON, Ohio (AP) - Kyle Pohl threw a career-best four touchdown passes to lead Akron to a 41-0 victory over Howard of the FCS last night in the opening game for both teams. Three of Pohl's first five pass attempts were for touchdowns.
COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) - Everyone is watching as J.T. Barrett takes over the starting quarterback job at Number 5 Ohio State. The freshman assumed the position when two-time Big Ten player of the year Braxton Miller reinjured his throwing shoulder last week. Coach Urban Meyer says Barrett is doing a great job handling one of the highest profile jobs at the college level.
