
BOSTON (AP) - The Cleveland Indians beat the Boston Red Sox 12-3 last night in manager Terry Francona's return to Fenway Park. Drew Stubbs and Mark Reynolds drove in three runs each and Cleveland had 16 hits. Francona, who was let go by Boston after the 2011 season, got a standing ovation after the first inning during a video tribute on the center-field scoreboard.
BOSTON (AP) - The Cleveland Indians have recalled left-hander Scott Barnes and designated left-hander David Huff for assignment. Barnes was 2-2 with a 5.74 ERA in 12 relief appearances for AAA Columbus. In two previous stints with Cleveland this season, he was 0-0 with a 4.50 ERA in three relief outings.
BEREA, Ohio (AP) - Cleveland Browns quarterback Brandon Weeden is heading home to Oklahoma to lend a helping hand in the aftermath of the deadly tornado. Weeden says his wife, Melanie, has family in Moore, Oklahoma, where the tornado killed 24 people and destroyed thousands of homes. Weeden says none of her family members were injured and he's eager to "just to do my part" with the cleanup.
CHICAGO (AP) - Houston Dynamo defender Corey Ashe has been added to the roster for a U.S. training camp before its exhibition against Belgium. Training camp opens Sunday in Cleveland, and Ashe will be eligible to play in the May 29th game against Belgium there.
DUBLIN, Ohio (AP) - Almost every pro golfer has a story about an ill-timed phone ring or camera click that ruined a shot. The Memorial is taking steps to minimize those distractions. The tournament tees off next week in Dublin, Ohio, and will have a cadre of volunteers in the most popular groups, hoping to alleviate spectators creating problems for the players.
