Broadcast Maintenance Engineer\ IT Engineer (9/12/14)
Job Summary: The Maintenance Engineer\ IT Engineer provides hardware and software support for all broadcast related systems within the scope of the Engineering Department's responsibilities. This includes Master control play-out systems as well as support of legacy broadcast equipment. This position would also provide support to the stations Information Technologies Infrastructure hardware and software systems, including newsroom, editing, production, promotions, and sales. You would report to the Director of Technology\ Chief Engineer

Key Responsibilities:
  • Supporting systems used in transmission and/or signal reception paths.
  • Supporting computers and systems that function in and around broadcast facility with specific attention to those that control on-air equipment.
  • Interact with other members of the engineering department to guaranteed proper support of the facility in general. This includes Production, News, Sales, and Viewers
  • Work IT and assist whenever there is a cross-related project and/or problem.
  • Support and resolve end-user issues. Develop and maintain relationships with manufacturers and suppliers. Keep accurate records for both inventory and licensing purposes. Install and relocate equipment as needed.
  •  Stay current with a working knowledge of new technologies and apply whenever necessary or beneficial.
  • ENG\SNG Operations – must be able to obtain a Class B CDL within 6 months of employment
  •  Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
  • Minimum 3 years Broadcast Engineer\ IT experience
  • College \ Technical School graduate in related fields 
  • Familiarity of TCP/IP/SNMP Network topologies, VLANS and Cisco switches and other IT infrastructure preferred.
  • Must be willing to submit to a background investigation
  •  Must have unrestricted work authorization to work in the United States
  • Must be 18 years or older
  • Ability and willingness to travel and work overtime, and on weekends with short notice.
  • Must be available to work all shifts, including early mornings, evenings, holidays, weekends, late breaking news and weather emergencies.
  • Available 24hour/7days per week based on Scheduled hours
  • Mandatory overtime based on broadcasting needs
  • Must be willing to facilitate personnel requirements including late and/or last minute scheduling changes in a 24/7 high stress work environment.

Creative Service Videographer (9/8/14)
The Creative Service Videographer is responsible for shooting local commercials, station promos, and public service announcements in conjunction with the overall creative team. Emphasis on creative shot composition, lighting & sound techniques, still photography and extensive knowledge of equipment is preferred.  Position reports to Production Director and may receive projects from Director of Operations and Promotion Director.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • A degree in Broadcast Communications; TV, Radio and Film; Visual Technology; or related field
  • At least 2 years of industry or university-based experience
  • Knowledge of various cameras and formats, including XDCAM, DSLR and GoPro
  • Proficient with camera accessories (dolly, jib, stabilizer etc.)
  • Desire to maintain a competency for new technologies
  • Ability to be creative and innovative
  • Ability to manage time and juggle multiple projects efficiently and effectively
Key Responsibilities
  • Field/studio direction and videography, ensuring particular emphasis on shot composition, creative lighting and audio
  • Strong understanding of camera techniques (time lapse, compound shots, bracketing, reveals, rack focus, etc.)
  • Adapting video to script with direction from members of creative team
  • Basic knowledge of post-production, editing, compositing and special effects
  • Maintain a flexible schedule (may include night, weekend and breaking news shoots)
  • Organizing, transcoding, encoding, uploading and archiving of media files
  • Quality control of projects from concept to completion
  • Basic maintenance and organization of department equipment
  • Identifying new technologies, hardware, software and new techniques to remain on the leading edge of technology in video production
  • Maintain professional relationships with clients, agencies, Account Executives and 13abc staff

The Creative Service Production Assistant is responsible for basic non-linear editing of local commercials and public service announcements in conjunction with 13abc's creative team. News Producer  (7/21/14)
WTVG 13abc is now accepting applications for the position of news producer.  Candidates must be interested in crafting compelling newscasts using creative storytelling, and must demonstrate exceptional writing and organizational skills. News producers are responsible for crafting newscasts that showcase stories and other relevant material for  viewers in Northwest Ohio and Southeast Michigan.

News producers are required to make editorial decisions and work with anchors, reporters and a technical team under the direct supervision of the executive producer. The position requires the ability to work under pressure and strict deadlines.  Ideal applicant must be able to write accurate scripts, create graphical elements, craft compelling teases, time shows, coordinate field crews and have a strong understanding of the importance of breaking news and last minute developments in big stories.

• Ability to organize compelling, strong, local audience driven content.
• Demonstrated teamwork skills.
• Proven leadership skills, including the ability to manage a team to present relevant, accurate and clean newscasts.

WJRT-TV, the ABC affiliate in Flint, Michigan is seeking candidates for Production Studio Crew.

Responsibilities for Studio Crew include camera operation, character generator, audio board, and teleprompting.  Assist with timing live news and manage the studio floor. Field camera operation, remote setup, lighting and strike for video productions.

Secondary duties may include assisting the News Department with shooting and editing video and audio for news stories and assist Engineering with master control operation.  Must possess strong computer, organizational, and time management skills.  Production experience and college degree preferred.
