TOLEDO (WTVG) -- If you don't have health insurance, the Toledo-Lucas County Health Commissioner says sign up now.
"There's a lot of pluses to having that insurance," explains Eric Zgodzinski. "If you have that insurance, you're more likely to go to the doctor because, you know, you can afford it."
Open enrollment on the federal marketplace runs through December 15, 2017.
If you need help picking the right plan for you, the health department has "navigators" who can guide you through the process in one hour or less, and their services are free of charge.
Here are 3 things those at the Toledo-Lucas County Health Department want you to know about open enrollment:
1. Don't assume your enrollment is automatically renewed.
2. You can't be denied because of a preexisting condition.
3. Take the monthly tax credit instead of the yearly one.
The idea is to get you the best possible care at the lowest possible price.
