"We are with them every step of the way" American Red Cross continues to help victims of Andover Apartment fire

TOLEDO (WTVG) - The American Red Cross is helping families displaced by a massive fire Thursday at Andover Apartments.

The Red Cross of Northwest Ohio has set up a temporary shelter at Wolf Creek YMCA on Holland-Sylvania. Disaster Action Team Leader, Kathy McVicker, said seven people stayed at the shelter, while the rest are with family or friends.

"Our first concerns are taking care of they immediate needs," explained McVicker. "We want to make sure they have food, clothing and shelter."

McVicker adds they are working with management at Andover Apartments to make sure all residents have a place to stay until they can find a new home.

"We want them to know that we are on this journey with them," said McVicker. "We will not leave them. We are with them every step of the way."

The American Red Cross plans to help each family on an individual basis, and asking the community for monetary donations.
