Man shoots wife and kills himself in attempted murder-suicide in Monroe County

BERLIN TOWNSHIP, Mich (WTVG) - A tense situation in Monroe County is over after a barricaded gunman apparently took his own life.

The incident happened at the Newport Farms manufactured housing community in Berlin Township Saturday morning.

The Monroe County Sheriff says a man shot his 55-year-old wife in the neck while she was sleeping.

She and her daughter ran out of the house and called 9-1-1.

The special response team then tried to negotiate with the man and eventually found him dead of a self-inflicted wound.

The wife was treated at a local hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
