(TOLEDO) - A controlled burn involving hundreds of acres of property is scheduled Saturday at the Toledo-Lucas County Port Authority facility at 4867 Bay Shore Road in Oregon.
The controlled burn is approved by the Environmental Protection agency and is scheduled for 3:00pm. The controlled burn will be used to destroy common reeds, an invasive species, and other weeds. The Toledo-Lucas County Port Authority says the burn will allow the recovery and reuse of soil materials and additional capacity for disposal of Maumee River channel dredged materials.
The port says about 240 acres will be burned with the assistance of the City of Oregon Fire Department.
Hunters and fishermen should avoid the area during the controlled burn. If wind conditions are not favorable, the burn will be rescheduled.
