OTTAWA CO., Oh (WTVG) - Local musician and former American Idol runner-up, Crystal Bowersox, is putting out the call to help her mother.
Thursday morning, she got a call saying her mother's Ottawa county home had burned to the ground.
Her mother wasn't home at the time, but the entire house and everything inside is gone. Bowersox tells 13abc says her mother lost a lot of personal belongings, like pictures, that can't be replaced.
The home is where Bowersox grew up. She says it's hard to comprehend that her family home is gone, but she's beyond grateful that her mom is alive and well.
She says although she has enough money to support herself, she can't help her mom the way she'd like, so she's reaching out to the community.
"People might assume that because I was on TV that I can magically take care of this," Bowersox said from her Nashville home. "But I'm an independent artist and I have enough for my son and I and that's it. I want to help take care of my mom and I don't know what else to do, so this is it."
Bowersox created a GoFundMe page for her mom. So far, more than half of her goal has been reached. She says she is so thankful for the community's generosity.
There is no word on what may have started the fire.
