Florida school bus crash injures eight

HIGHLANDS COUNTY, Fla. — At least eight people were injured in a crash involving a school bus and a tractor-trailer Wednesday morning.

It happened in Highlands County between Sarasota and Port St Lucie.

The school bus was carrying 29 students when it was struck in the rear by a tractor-trailer just before 8 am.

Florida Highway Patrol reports that two students were airlifted to Tampa General Hospital with serious injuries.

Another hospital reports receiving six patients, including the school bus driver, all with non-life threatening injuries.

Hospital leaders have been notified more patients will be arriving.

They do not know the extent of those injuries at this time.
