TOLEDO, Ohio (13abc Action News) - A unicorn, talking puppy, a bright orange toboggan are among thousands of toys gifted during 13abc's Hope for the Holidays toy drive which concluded Friday.
Distribution scheduled for next week.
13abc's Hope for the Holidays program is in partnership with the Salvation Army and U.S. Marine Corps Reserves (Tots for Tots).
"Last year, the Salvation Army of Northwest Ohio assisted 3,419 families through our Christmas assistance program" according to Salvation Army Operations Manager Elizabeth Schwandt. "6,689 children...woke up to a gift under the tree. This was made possible through the generosity of our friends and neighbors...bringing them hope for the holidays."
Since the Hope for the Holidays project began in 2011, more than 113,000 toys have been distributed locally.
The Salvation Army conducted an earlier application process for those families who need assistance and more than 1,300 families applied.
13abc partners include Vito’s Pizza, Arnold’s Home Improvement, Dave White Chevrolet and Acura and Jim White Toyota and Gallon, Takacs, Boissoneault & Schaffer to present Hope for the Holidays.
