How TPD officers protect themselves from heroin

TOLEDO, Ohio (WTVG) - Heroin is putting officers lives at risk. In Wednesday's Crime Fighters report we look at how science is protecting officers from the deadly drug.

"I work the day shift and people overdose all day long," said Officer Mickey Mitchell.

K-9 handler Mickey Mitchell and his partner Yuma know the dangers of heroin on the streets. TPD has administered 162 doses of Narcan of those four people have died. When officers come across any evidence it's take to the Toledo police department and first tested it an isolation container. Then forensic experts will test it in the Toledo police forensic lab.
