Kids, Flu, School: A dangerous mix

One local pediatric clinic says it's seen over 100 kids test positive for influenza A. Mercy Health Dr. Kehi Obeto MD says "There are many other kids who have come in with the flu and just haven't been confirmed with a test if the symptoms are obvious. But this has been a highly unusual year for the number of flu cases," says Obeto.

The problem is that some parents still send their kids to school when they're sick with the flu and are highly contagious. The most critical point of the flu is the first 2 to 3 days when it still can be spread quite easily. "A child should not be sent back to school until they are fever free for 24 hours without the help of Tylenol or Motrin to bring it down," says Obeto.
