Kroger aims to hire thousands of workers, dozens of those positions are local

TOLEDO, Ohio (WTVG) - Kroger is working to hire about 11,000 workers across the country. That's up about 1,000 from last year.

A spokesperson for the company says 150 of those positions are local to Northwest Ohio. A hiring event is scheduled for May 5 from 10:00am - 3:00pm at all Northwest Ohio Kroger stores.

The spokesperson says Kroger stores are hiring daily and anyone who is interested can apply at jobs.kroger.com or by clicking the "Kroger Jobs" link on this page.

The nation's largest grocery chain by revenue is locked in a fierce completion with Amazon.com, which acquired Whole Foods last year, as well as Walmart and Target.

The company said that almost 2,000 of the jobs are management positions. It hired 12,000 people in 2016 and currently has nearly 500,000 employees and 2,800 grocery stores.
