TOLEDO, Ohio (WTVG) - Kroger announced it is closing its Southland Shopping Center location. The store employs about 115 people. The company says they will be offered jobs at other nearby Kroger locations, including the Glendale Avenue store.
The company says it will not renew the lease at the property at 1415 Byrne Rd. in Toledo.
According to a news release, operations will cease on August 14. The Kroger Fuel Center in will close on the same date.
Bill Green, VP of Operations for Kroger’s Columbus Division said, “Closing a store is always a difficult decision. Unfortunately, despite a number of investments in the store over the past years, and our store team’s best efforts, we continued to see profits steadily decline at the Byrne Road store. After the first quarter of this year, it was decided to end operations at this location.”
Kroger began operating the store in the Southland Shopping Center in 2003. The space leased from Brixmor Property Group will be returned to the owner on Dec. 31, 2017, when the lease expires.
“Our customers can rest assured that we will continue to provide fresh products and friendly service throughout the shutdown process, said Green. We look forward to continuing to serve our customers at one of our many nearby locations.”
