Local people celebrated as heroes at annual event

MAUMEE (WTVG) - It's often that people in Northwest Ohio perform life saving acts, but do they get recognized for them?

Thursday night at the 50th Annual Hero Awards Banquet those who have put their lives on the line received a big thank you.

Some staff members of Phoenix Academy were among the 24 award recipients. They helped save a coworker who appeared to be in cardiac arrest.

Chris Podzinski said, "that just means the place where I work is like family and everybody looks out for each other."

Firefighters, law enforcement and local civilians also took home hero awards.
