Morning shooting victim identified as 16-year-old Kenneth Veley

TOLEDO, Ohio (WTVG) - Toledo Police are investigating after a body of a man was found by neighbors on East Central Avenue near Franklin.

Neighbors tell 13abc they heard multiple gunshots between 11PM and midnight Monday. Police were called out to investigate around midnight, but did not find a victim. Investigators say they are looking into the possibility that the shots fired call may be related to the homicide.

Lt. Kevan Toney says a woman walked out of her home around 9AM and found of the body near her driveway.

"We are determining now if this occurred between the houses of where the victim was shot, or did he run here from somewhere else," Lt. Kevan Toney said.

Toledo police later identified the victim as Kenneth Veley, 16.

A neighbor who did not want to be identified said a woman who lives across the street walked out of her home when she saw the body lying in her driveway.

"My neighbor was hysterical, so I ran over and she said there was a body on the side of her house and that's when they discovered it."

Detectives continue to gather evidence and are seeking the community’s assistance. No suspect(s) are in custody at this time. Anyone with information is urged to call Crime Stoppers at (419) 255-1111. There have been 21 homicides in Toledo this year.
