TOLEDO, Ohio (13abc Action News) - Walk into the Park Inn in downtown Toledo and you will see a nice, mid-scale hotel.
But a closer look shows it needs some sprucing up.
And with Hotel Seagate next door about to get a $30-million renovation and the Renaissance Hotel a block up the street open after a $30- million renovation. the Park Inn needs to step up.
Joe Xu is the general manager at the Park Inn. He says the hotel has finalized new room designs and is hiring a company to build fixtures and furniture.
In January, a contractor will be hired.
Xu says, "i wish it could have been done earlier, but type investment like this takes some time to make decision."
No exact figures yet but we're probably looking at about $10-million in renovations.
All 12 floors of guest rooms will get new carpet, paint, furniture, fixtures and bathrooms.
Right now, about 100 of the hotels 400-rooms are not being used but Xu says even those rooms will get a make over.
With the Park Inn's proximity to Fifth-Third Field and Huntington Center and Seagate Convention Center.
Xu believes his hotel will add to downtown's revitalization, saying, "This building itself is just beautiful, it's just a little bit out of date. As long as we put in new things everything will be fine."
After renovating the rooms, the Park Inn will focus on turning its Clubhouse restaurant in a sports bar and redesigning the hotel lobby and ballrooms.
Construction could start in the Spring 2018 and be complete in 18 months.
