Two dead after multi-vehicle crash on U.S. 23

SUMMERFIELD TWP., Mi (WTVG) - The southbound lanes of U.S. 23 have reopened at Mile Marker 11 in Summerfield Township in Monroe County after a deadly crash Friday afternoon.

The Monroe County Sheriff's Office says a 5-year old and 35-year old died at the scene.

Deputies say four vehicles were involved in a crash on the highway.

The initial investigation revealed that Todd Moyer, 27, was in the left lane on SB 23 and was distracted, according to a news release.

Investigators say he hit the car with the young child and woman, pushing it into the car in front of it.

Moyer then hit another car before coming to stop.

No one else was reported injured. The crash remains under investigation. The southbound lanes of 23 were closed while the scene was cleared.

Both victims were from Ohio. Their names have not been released.
