MAUMEE- (13action News) - Police in Charlottesville, Viriginia arrested James Alex Fields, Jr, the man they allege is behind the wheel running over a crowd of protesters.

The Ohio license plate GVF 1111 is registered to James Fields at an apartment complex on Deer Ridge Road.

13abc reporter Bill Hormann walked up the the apartment but no one was home.

One neighbor tells us the 20-year old lived with his mother.

Others who live along the same quiet alley did not know Fields or his mother but they are shocked their neighbor from Maumee would use a car as a weapon at a protest in Virginia.

Dorothy Taylor told us, "Seems like a long way to go for that. I'm surprised anybody does it, anyway."

A 32-year old woman was killed when the car rolled over her. Dozens of others were injured.

Neighbor Shawn Bohannon says, "No matter what your views are to run people over. To have that kind of hatred. It's just unfortunate.

Fields was arrested at the scene, his 2010 gray Dodge Challenger his weapon.

Bob Rose, another neighbor who did not know the suspect says, "Goes to show there's strange people out there no matter where you go."

Police are filing a variety of charges. According to the Washington Post, Fields faces a suspicion of second-degree murder charge along with three counts of malicious wounding and one count of failing to stop at an accident that resulted in a death.

Fields is in the Albemarle-Charlottesville Regional Jail held without bail.
