Ohio's Sales Tax Holiday just in time for Back to School

TOLEDO, Ohio (13abc Action News) - Ohio's tax free weekend is upon us and area stories are already for the extra foot traffic.

Shoppers will not have to pay sales tax on school supplies that cost 20 dollars or less.

Judy Cassidy is a Meijer store director. She says, "There's a lot of sales items on sale, we have over 100 school items that are a dollar or less, that in itself is a big savings, but on top of that not having to pay tax ...that can help families tremendously."

Pens, papers, notebooks, binders and other supplies are already laid out for you.

The deals go beyond school supplies. Clothing priced 75 dollars or less are also tax exempt.

Aimee Chafins is the store manager of this Walmart in Perrysburg. She says, "its a great way top save money because its not just back to school items."

Work boots, diapers and other essentials can all be purchased without tax. There's no limit on the number of qualifying items a customer can buy. Meijer is offering additional savings for teachers this weekend.

Judy says, "Just go to the Meijer customer service desk and produce an ID that you are a teacher, we will give you 10 percent off. "
