Port Clinton homes still underwater from Ottawa County flooding

PORT CLINTON, Ohio (WTVG) - EMA officials declared a state of emergency in Ottawa County, the village of Oak Harbor and Port Clinton after heavy rain caused widespread flooding.

EMA reports that between five to eight inches of rain fell between 8:00 PM Tuesday and 6:00 AM Wednesday.

By Wednesday evening most roads were back open and the water started to recede in most areas.

That's not the case for some homeowners on Catawba Island.

"I work in Fremont and it looks about the same when I left for work when I came home," said Linda Peiffer.

"I've lost my furnace I've lost my hot water heater I've lost my air conditioner out here those are all gone," said Bruce Yackee.

More than one pump around the neighborhood is draining the flood waters into Lake Erie and have been for nearly 12 hours.

Homeowners expect it will be days before their neighborhood is back to normal.
