BOWLING GREEN (WTVG) -- We see bottles that are mislabeled or not labeled turn up from time to time on health inspections.

One recent violation from the Wood County Health District pointed out a jug labeled "Syrup" was filled with "soap water."

That jug was inside the Waffle House on Wooster St. in Bowling Green.

During the last Standard Health Inspection, that Waffle House had 12 Violations, including 3 Critical:

X Pecan pie, chocolate pie, other ready to eat foods not date marked.
X Dirty dishes were being rinsed in hand sink.
X Soap water is stored in jugs labeled "syrup."

Three days later, a follow-up at the Waffle House in Bowling Green brought those violations down to zero!

In response, a corporate spokesperson for Waffle House emailed 13abc:

"We make every effort to provide a clean and safe restaurant for our customers, and this restaurant did not live up to our standards. We apologize to our customers for letting them down and want to ensure them we are taking every effort to correct the issues. Our senior management has been involved with the local restaurant team to correct all of the concerns outlined in the September 18 inspection. On September 21, the Wood County Health District inspected the restaurant and confirmed all issues had been corrected. In addition, our corporate training department is working with the local restaurant management on additional food safety coaching for our team, and a member of our corporate team will be on site soon to continue the coaching." - Pat Warner, Director of PR and External Affairs, Waffle House, Inc.

Next, Jo Jo's Original Pizzeria in Sylvania's Mayberry Square. The Toledo-Lucas County Health Department noted 11 Violations, 3 of which were considered Critical:

X The handwashing sink in the kitchen was under repair.
X Build-up on the inside of the ice-machine.
X Chili, chicken noodle soup not being held at the proper temperature.

That last one was corrected at the time of the inspection.

13abc left a message with an employee at Jo Jo's Original Pizzeria. We're still waiting to hear back from a manager.

Also, Bev's Kold Keg on Airport Highway in Swanton had 10 Violations, 1 was Critical:

X Employee touching ready-to-eat food with bare hands.
X Build-up of dirt and debris throughout the kitchen floors and walls.
X The three compartment sink faucet is leaking.

13abc tried to contact Bev's Kold Keg several times. No one picked up the phone and no one came to the door.

Finally, Bleakhouse Coffee on Adams St. downtown. Employees told 13abc a sanitarian with the Toledo-Lucas County Health Department caught them at a bad time.

A manager says she stepped out right before the health inspector arrived. Bleakhouse then got 12 Violations, including 7 Critical:

X No one present with Level 1 Food Safety Certification.
X Person in charge did not ensure their employees are properly trained in food safety.
X Employee unsure about Employee Health Policy.

In response, a manager from Bleakhouse Coffee emailed 13abc:

"Food safety, cleanliness, and organization are the top priority at Bleak House Coffee. Since our inspection we have taken every step to rectify the violations that were given and have put into action the necessary training for front of house. We have scheduled the health department to return to and confirm that every violation has been taken seriously and fixed." - Patrick Borucki
