Restaurant Report Card: 1.25.18 Mad Dawgs

TOLEDO (WTVG) -- Washing your hands is key in the food service industry. So is drying them.

But if your restaurant is out of hand towels, your restaurant could get a violation.

At Bloudan 7430 W Central Avenue A, Toledo, that was among the violations (3 critical & 7 non-critical) spotted by the Toledo-Lucas County Health Department during a Standard Inspection January 9, 2018. For example:

X Rusted shelving in walk in cooler.
X No towels or hand drying device at the handwashing sink.
X Food that had been date marked was not properly discarded when required.

Those last two were corrected at the time of the inspection.

13abc sent Bloudan a message through its website. We're still waiting to hear back.

The Wood County Health District also noted 10 Violations (3 critical & 7 non-critical) on January 10, 2018, at Jed's Perrysburg, 7010 Lighthouse Way, Perrysburg. Included in the report:

X Ranch at 58 degrees sitting out on the counter.
X No date on bulk deli ham loaf.
X Card board on the bottom shelf of the prep table.

In response, Jed's Perrysburg messaged 13abc through Facebook:

"First and foremost, we take any and all violations very seriously and all have been corrected. There were only 2 food related violations, and they were immediately corrected during the inspection. The remaining violations were minor and/or maintenance in nature. For example, a mop was not hung up to dry, a cardboard container was left on bottom shelf of prep table, an employee eating outside of the designated area, a torn gasket on cooler door, a cracked container lid, and a safety poster wasn't on display. ALL violations have now been corrected."
- Mike Govito, Owner of Jed's in Perrysburg.

Finally, on January 9, 2018, Mad Dawgs Bar & Grill, 109 N Main St, Bradner, had 12 Violations (5 critical & 7 non-critical). The Wood County Health District noted:

X Debris and staining inside the ice machine
X Debris on the can opener cutting blade.
X Chili was not properly date marked.

In response, the owner of Mad Dawgs messaged 13abc:

"(The violations) were all taken care of ... No matter what we do (sanitarians) are going to find violations so can justify their existence ... It's never our goal at Mad Dawgs to allow any situation to make a customer sick. And in my 5 years of business, nobody has. Another example of government, and with all due respect, the media making it hard for the little (guys) to do business."
