Standoff with police in Sylvania Township ends peacefully

TOLEDO (13abc Action News) - After six hours, a standoff situation ended peacefully at a home on Isadore off Sylvania Avenue. A SWAT team was called to the scene after a person reportedly was barricaded inside the house.

"Eventually, we had family members, one in particular, intervene and that one person was instrumental in getting him out of the house safely," Chief Robert Boehme, Sylvania Township Police Department said.

Chief Boehme says the man was having some personal problems and was very distraught. He doesn't expect charges to be filed.

"The important thing is that we got him out safely," the chief said. "We made some promises to get him out and that's more important than charging someone with a misdemeanor or low level felony charges."

A large police presence was on location and a few residents were evacuated as a safety precaution.

"It's a little strange," Jordan Smelser, who lives across the street said. "I'm not used to seeing anything like this. I didn't expect this to happen so close to home."

Isadore is located near Sylvania Southview High School and off Sylvania Avenue between King Road and McCord.
