Shoney's set to break ground in May, open this fall

DEFIANCE, Ohio (WTVG) - Shoney's is coming to Defiance. The restaurant chain signed a franchise agreement to open a new location in the fall of 2018. It will be located at 1880 Jefferson Avenue, directly across from the Defiance High School Complex.

“With the construction of the new High School Complex and remodel of the YMCA, the South Side of Defiance is set to become a focal point of the city. We are excited to develop this area with an iconic restaurant brand like Shoney’s where students, parents and families can gather and enjoy a quality meal in a family-friendly, but modern and beautiful atmosphere,” said Rob Miller of RoCo Holdings, LLC. “Shoney’s has made incredible changes to its menu and design in recent years. We can’t wait to introduce Shoney’s to Defiance and the surrounding communities.”

Shoney's has been around since 1947. Since that time, it has undergone an extensive brand rejuvenation strategy aimed at reviving the family-friendly, southern-style restaurant.

“We have made significant changes over the years to bring Shoney’s back to its glory days.” said CEO David Davoudpour. “Our guests are looking for fresh quality food at a great value with friendly service and we are now confidently ready to grow through franchising. We are thrilled to have Cory and Rob as our franchisee partners to bring this great brand to the Defiance community.”

The groundbreaking will take place on March 13th at 2:00pm. with Defiance Mayor Mike McCann and other City officials in attendance. The public is welcome.
