On Wednesday 13abc did a report on the Ride of Silence. This was bike ride where dozens of cyclists rode through Toledo to raise awareness for bikers killed while riding.
A day later, Toledo police said Douglas Kania was severely injured in a hit and run crash near Nebraska and Hawley. Kania died on Friday morning at Mercy St. Vincent's Medical Center.
Friday evening friends came to the intersection where Kania was hit to remember the 54-year-old.
Jodie LaPoint said she knew Kania for 30 years.
"They took our family from us," said LaPoint. They took our brother from us. I loved Doug. He's always been in my family."
Emotions were high at the vigil to remember Kania.
William Bacon said, "he rode his bike quite a bit and he walked and we all gave him rides. We loved him"
Police are searching for the driver of a white vehicle that was caught on camera leaving the scene.
"Just think if it was one of your loved ones out here left in the middle of the street like that laying to die," said Carmen Hamilton. "It's not right."
If you recognize the vehicle please call Crime Stopper at 419-255-1111.
