Trooper's vehicle involved in crash on NB I-75

WOOD COUNTY, Ohio (WTVG) - A State Trooper's vehicle was hit in a crash on northbound I-75 in Wood County Wednesday morning.

The crash happened just after 6:00 AM on I-75 between Bowling Green and US 6 near milepost 181 in Center Township.

According to a release an scene investigators learned that James E. Tounage, age 52, of Detroit, Michigan was driving a 2012 Buick Lacrosse southbound on Interstate 75 when he became distracted behind the wheel.

Trooper Philip R. Mohre, age 42, of the Findlay Patrol Post was on stationary patrol on Interstate 75 in the center median cross over. Mr. Tounage went off the left side of the roadway into the median cross over and struck Trooper Mohre’s patrol car. After the impact the Buick Lacrosse went back across the southbound lanes of Interstate 75 and struck the ditch at final rest.

State Patrol says that Trooper Phil Moore was the one involved in the crash. They say he's been with the Findlay Post for several years.

Mr. Tounage and his passenger, Jewel D. Milledge, age 49, also of Detroit, Michigan sustained minor injuries as a result of the crash and were transported by ground ambulance to the Wood County Hospital. The vehicle sustained heavy damage.

Trooper Mohre was uninjured as a result of the crash, but was transported by Ohio State Highway Patrol Personnel to the Wood County Hospital as a precaution. The vehicle sustained heavy front end damage.

No other vehicles were involved.The southbound left lane of Interstate 75 was closed for a short time during the crash investigation and since have been reopened. Authorities say all parties were wearing seatbelts Mr. Tounage was subsequently cited for failure to control.
