The Bowling Green State University baseball team split a doubleheader with Canisius College on Saturday. Both games were played on the campus of Campbell University in Buies Creek, N.C. With the split, BGSU's record on the season sits at 3-8.
Bowling Green won the first game of the day by a score of 12-10, before dropping the second game, 9-2. The second game of the day was a seven-inning contest.
"I was really happy with how aggressive we came out to open the day," said head coach Danny Schmitz. "Sometimes you are going to get into an offensive game like that, and it was nice to see us find a way to get a win. Give Canisius credit, they came right back and jumped out to a big early lead in the second game."
In both games, the winning teams jumped out to big first-inning leads. The Falcons racked up four runs in the first game, while Canisius put up a six-spot in the second game. The Golden Griffins would go on to knot the first contest at 9-9, but the Falcons secured the victory by plating three runs in the seventh.
Canisius' six-run first in the nightcap was too much for the Falcons to overcome. Bowling Green pulled a run back in the fourth, but Canisius added three more runs in the sixth to put the game out of reach.
