TOLEDO (WTVG) - Jim Leyland may be retired, that certainly is not keeping him out of baseball.
Leyland calls Pittsburgh home today but one could argue his car is his home as he spends time in Detroit working with the Tigers as a Special Advisor to the General Manager. It is also not uncommon to catch Leyland watching the Mud Hens in downtown Toledo.
Leyland also works for the Major League Baseball commissioner's office.
Wednesday morning, Leyland was the keynote speaker for the Construction Financial Management Association Buckeye Regional Conference at the Fifth Third Center at One SeaGate in downtown Toledo. Leyland relayed to the auditorium that leading a construction business is no different than managing a baseball team.
The Perrysburg native spoke for about 40 minutes (scheduled for an hour) and joked that he was done talking because he cannot fill an hour as a speaker. Following Leyland's appearance, he posed for a few selfies in the lobby with conference attendees and spoke to 13abc about the future of the Tigers plus the 2017 Cleveland Indians.
