Lourdes bounced back from two straight defeats on Saturday afternoon to defeat Bethel (Ind.) 25-20, 26-24, 25-18 inside of Gates Gymnasium in Mishawaka, Ind.
“We played much more consistently today,” head coach Greg Reitz stated after the match. “We still have some work to do to get to where we need to be, but this was a step in the right direction.”
The Gray Wolves limited the Pilots to just .057 hitting on the afternoon, forcing the hosts into 30 attack errors.
Trailing 14-13 in the opening set, Lourdes went on a 7-2 run to take the lead and closed the set with three straight points to take the set. In the second, the Gray Wolves never trailed after 2-1, but there were seven ties before Lourdes pulled out the win. Lourdes never trailed in the third, scoring five straight points early to open up a 10-4 advantage, on the way to closing out the sweep.
Genessee Tate (West Covina, Calif./West Covina H.S.) led Lourdes with 11 kills while hitting .346 while Kristin Murrell (Toledo, Ohio/Central Catholic H.S.) tallied a team-high 12 digs. Evynn Eubanks (Phoenix, Ariz./Arcadia H.S.) handed out 16 assists and Sarah Wisser (Schoolcraft, Mich./Schoolcraft H.S.) added 13 more as Lourdes hit .200 for the match as a team.
Abby Armold and Haley Brown each had a team-high eight kills for Bethel (8-8) while Erin Carols registered 15 digs defensively.
Lourdes (7-4) will return home on Wednesday evening to host Concordia (Mich.). First serve is set for 7 p.m. inside of the Russell J. Ebeid Recreation Center.
