Lourdes closed out the 2017 cross country season on Saturday afternoon at a cold and rainy Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference Championships held Riverside Park in Grand Rapids, Mich.
“We ran very well for having difficult weather conditions today,” head coach David Espinoza said following the race. “We have a lot of things to keep our heads up about and build upon for next season.”
Jonah Roadcloud (Philadelphia, Pa./Mastery H.S.) led the way for the Gray Wolves with a time of 28:04.1 over the eight-kilometer course to finish in 67th place overall. His time was the third fastest in program history, and a season’s best for the sophomore.
Lane Trapp (Alexandria, Ala./Alexandria H.S.) was the second Lourdes runner to cross the finish line, posting a time of 29:55.2, also a season’s best mark. Kevin Huang (Sylvania, Ohio/Southview H.S.) added a time of 31:13.8 while Paolo Guembes (Lima, Peru/Western [Fla.] H.S.) finished in 32:25.0 to round out the Gray Wolf lineup.
Cornerstone’s Colin De Young was the individual champion with a time of 25:09.9, just over eight seconds ahead of runner-up Tony Floyd from Madonna.
Indiana Tech was the team champion with 46 points, 10 fewer than runner-up Cornerstone. Lourdes, with only the four runners, did not post a team score.
