In the first fall competition of the 2017-18 campaign, the Toledo women's tennis team earned three flight victories and had six flight final appearances over the weekend at the Bowling Green Invitational.
Junior Claire Aleck earned the frieda single flight after defeating Juliette Sirgant of Tiffin University. Aleck had first round bye in the flight and defeated Kayla Pukys of Kenyon University 6-2, 6-1 to earn a trip in the semifinals. In the semifinals, Aleck defeated Mira Amin of Case Western, 6-2, 7-5 to advance to the finals.
In flight two of doubles, the senior duo of Colleen O'Brien and Sidnay Huck defeated Bowling Green's Marharita-Sophia Tavpash and Theresa Wassmann, 6-4, to claim the second flight victory of the day for the Rockets.
The third flight win of the day came from sophomore Dee Dee Leenabanchong who dominated the finals of the singles three flight, coming away victorious 6-1, 6-0 over Marta Bettinelli of Bowling Green. Leenabanchong breezed through the flight dropping a total of five sets.
In flight one doubles action, the duo of Woseley and Leenabanchong for the Rockets fell in the finals, 2-6 to Diana Aboubakare and Erika Oku of Kenyon University. In the singles brown draw, Huck advanced all the way to the flight final after embarking on an incredible comeback to defeat BGSU's Marharita Tavpash, 3-6, 6-0, 10-6 in the semifinals. Huck ultimately fell to Polina Radeva of BGSU, 4-6, 4-6.
Sophomore Mimi Kendall-Woseley advanced to the final of the single orange draw after defeating Case Western's Nithya Kanagasegar, 6-4, 6-1. In the final, Kendall-Woseley battled with Bowling Green's Paula Comella before falling 2-6 in the first set and 6-7 in the second.
The Rockets will be back in action on Friday, Oct. 6 through Sunday, Oct.9 in Buffalo, N.Y. at the Buffalo Invitational.
