COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) - Republicans in the state House are pushing to repeal the Common Core education standards, saying it was a mistake to put them in place four years ago. The lawmakers say their proposal would return control of education to the state and they cite widespread frustration over the standards from parents and teachers.
CINCINNATI (AP) - A man accused of bribing U.S. military contracting officials has been returned from Iraq to the U.S. Government officials say Metin Atilan's (meh-TEEN' AH'-tuh-lahnz) extradition to Ohio is the first between the two countries. He has pleaded not guilty to contract and wire fraud.
COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) - An off-duty firefighter struck by lightning late last month at a Columbus Crew soccer game is doing better. Lieutenant Stu Tudor has been upgraded to stable condition after going into cardiac arrest. He has been transferred to a rehab hospital as he continues his recovery.
CINCINNATI (AP) - A judge has ordered the city of Cincinnati to repay $4 million to neighborhood districts, ruling it improperly borrowed millions designated for neighborhood projects to instead pay its school district taxes. The Cincinnati Enquirer reports the city was also ordered not to make similar internal loans in the future.
