Some local riders are glad to hear we'll get a break from the rain this weekend because they'll be saddling up to help military veterans, and they're bringing in some help from Hollywood! The Charity Ride for Vets horse show will be held this weekend at the Harry Hughes Youth Equestrian Center just outside Swanton.
The show runs Saturday and Sunday with plenty of classes for beginners all the way through advanced. Organizer Dara Maier says some of the money raised will go to a closed brain injury trauma unit in a war zone. The rest will go to a local military family in need, "We've had calls from Texas, Tennessee,Indiana,Pennsylvania and Kentucky . There are a lot of people showing a lot of interest in this."
James Drury, the star of the old TV western "The Virginian" will be at the horse show both days helping raise money. They are hoping to have 100 horses compete at the show. If you'd like to take part log on to 13 ABC dot com for al the information you'll need to sign up.
They're hoping to raise several thousand dollars and if you can't ride but would like to help, you can make a donation at any Key Bank Branch to the Charity Ride for Vets fund.
