Hope for the Holidays Toy Drive

The toy drive has now ended.  The Salvation Army reports a total of 18,760 toys were donated as a result of the campaign! That number doubles last year's total!

Thanks to everyone who took part!

Trucks full of colorful toys rolled in and out for weeks. The cargo was headed to the Salvation Army in Toledo which resembled a makeshift "Santa's Workshop" just before Christmas 2011. It was all part of the first "Hope for the Holidays" toy drive campaign.  Donations began pouring in mid-November and continued until a few days before Christmas.

The Salvation Army is the coordinating agency for distribution of tens of thousands of toys annually to those in need throughout the Toledo region.

Last year, 13abc launched the "Hope for the Holidays" toy drive to provide the Salvation Army a boost in helping families during a challenging economy.  The toy drive resulted in an outpouring of gifts from generous friends and neighbors that exceeded expectations.  Nearly 8,000 new bicycles, games, dolls and other toys were donated.

This year, the Salvation Army and 13abc welcome returning sponsors Gallon, Takacs, Boissoneault & Schaffer, Hylant Group and Vito's Pizza and Subs and new sponsor, Walmart.
