13abc Action News has learned that Whitmer High School head football coach Joe Palka has resigned. He will be named the new head coach, assistant principal and assistant athletic director at Saline High School in Saline, Michigan.
Palka said in a statement released to 13abc... "I am very grateful for the opportunity provided for me over the last six years by Washington Local Schools. I would like to thank my staff, my players, our administration, our School Board, and the entire Washington Local community for their support. It has been a great experience, and I will cherish the memories and the relationships built here for the rest of my life."
Tom Snook, Whitmer's Athletic Director said, the athletic department would immediately begin a comprehensive search for the school's next head football coach.
This news comes as the Ohio High School Athletic Association (OHSSA) continues to investigate the school's alleged use of ineligible players. Palka tells 13abc's Sports director Dave Holmes that he, "stands by the way we did things at Whitmer."
