Fire destroys Fulton Co. home on Rt. 2

Posted: Updated:

Crews had to tear down a home in Fulton County along Route 2 between Wauseon and Delta after fire caused extensive damage.

Saturday morning, someone driving by spotted smoke and called 9-1-1. Firefighters arrived to find heavy flames but no one inside.

"The interior of the house appeared to be under renovation," says Wauseon Fire Chief Mary Wheeler. "There was a lot of the structural stuff removed from the interior of the house."

Crews from Wauseon, Lyons, Swanton and Delta all pitched in, attacking the flames from the outside.

Wauseon's chief says he spoke with the homeowner on the phone, who was out of town when the fire started.

No one was injured in the blaze, and there's still no word on a cause.
