DAYTON, Ohio (AP) - Civilian employees at Ohio's largest military base will have until Aug. 1 to notify officials if they plan to retire or leave with incentives ahead of hundreds of layoffs this fall. The incentives are meant to encourage employees at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base near Dayton to leave voluntarily before the base eliminates 372 workers by Oct. 1. The Air Force says it will save $1.6 billion by eliminating more than 3,400 jobs throughout the service. Base spokesman Daryl Ma...

Monday our community will pause and honor the life of Dr. Martin Luther King Junior.

Toledo's M.L.K. Unity Celebration will take place at the University of Toledo's Savage Arena.

Scholarships will also be given to some deserving students.

Since 1969, the M.L.K Scholarship has helped more than 100 U.T. students pay for their education.

This weekend, Savage Arena will be transformed for the 11th annual M.L.K unity celebration.

This year's theme is stand!

And just like years before, you can expect a spirit filled performance by the Toledo interfaith mass choir.

But this year... 5 U.T. students will receive M.L.K. scholarships.

Lanyn Jordan is one of those recipients. She says, "Getting this award is such an honor to be recognized as a Martin Luther King scholarship recipient and to represent him and be worthy enough to represent him in any way is a huge honor."

Jordan graduated from the Toledo early college high school and is now a sophomore at the university, studying psychology and pre-med.

Jordan says he believes King's dream is alive and well through many prominent African American leaders today. "I think with every day President Barack Obama is in office it just carries on his legacy, and there's many others who inspire me, such as Oprah Winfrey and Tony Dungy."

Jordan says he's standing on the shoulders of his parents and a mentor who encouraged him to pursue his dreams of med school through education. "My high school teacher her husband was a lawyer. He kind of put me into chess and got me in to academic areas as well as my parents, my mom's a nurse, so I got that medical background from her."

Jordan says it's a dream he knows he can fulfill, thanks to King, who had a dream more than 40 years ago.

The city's M.L.K. Unity Celebration will begin Monday at 9 am.

They are asking that you bring a canned good that will be donated to the M.L.K kitchen for the poor.

A community luncheon will follow the ceremony.
