A man is behind bars after police say he tried to steal cigarettes and then took them on a high-speed chase Thursday afternoon.

Kenneth Thierjung, 49, is currently being held in the Putnam County Jail.

Investigators say that a clerk at a Delphos convenience store recognized Thierjung as being wanted by authorities.

Police chased him into rural Putnam County, reaching speeds of 100 miles per hour.

Thierjung eventually stopped and turned himself in.
