TOLEDO, Ohio -
The referee charged with bringing a gun into a Sylvania high school has withdrew his previous plea of not guilty and entered a plea of guilty.
According to investigators, Darrel Phillips had a 9mm handgun in his gym bag when it was stolen from the locker room at Sylvania Southview during a girl's basketball game. Phillips told police he has a permit for the weapon, but forgot it was in his bag.
He is charged with "possession of a deadly weapon in a school safety zone."
Phillips entered a guilty plea to lesser offense of illegal conveyance of a deadly weapon or dangerous ordnance in a school safety zone. He will be sentenced Tuesday, August 7.
