TOLEDO, Ohio -
Columbia Gas of Ohio is making a multi-million dollar investment in Toledo. The company will spend 20 million dollars to make upgrades across the city this year. The projects are a part of a 25 year, 2 billion dollar investment across the state. Columbia Gas is making a 20 million dollar investment through several major projects in Toledo this year.
The investment will go toward a pipe line replacement project, which will upgrade nearly 50 miles of natural gas infrastructure for more than 6,000 customers in the following areas: •South Avenue and Ogden Avenue •Airline Avenue and Decatur Street •Rogers Street and Woodville Road •Holmes Street •Yates Street •Parkwood Avenue •Dryden Drive
Columbia Gas will replace bare steel lines with modern state of the art plastic pipes, which will increase natural gas delivery pressure. Contractors are already working near Emanuel Dolph's home, but there's another upgrade customers can expect. "They are going to take our meter that's inside and move it outside and supposedly that's a lot safer."
So what do all these upgrades really mean for customers like Emanuel? Chris Kozak, public relations expert for Columbia Gas of Ohio, says "It means you're going to have reliable service. It means safe service. It means when he wants to take a shower in the morning or cook a meal, it's going to be there."
Regional Growth Partnership President and CEO Dean Monske says it means more than just better service. It means jobs. "Since this has started, they've already hired 40 people and looking to hire 10 more. And have worked with over a dozen local contracting companies that actually do the work so there's an immediate impact as well."
Work on all the projects is scheduled to be completed by mid-December of this year.
