Snow, ice lead to dozens of accidents on roads

Posted: Updated:
TOLEDO, Ohio -

Friday night's snow caused problems on the roads. Black ice, white flakes and gusty winds made for a nasty mix.

Since Friday night, 13abc's cameras have spotted crash after crash.

One happened on I-475 near Douglas. Police say the driver lost control, spun out and ran into the concrete median. He went to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Another crash on South Avenue sent a teenager to the UTMC after the vehicle he was driving rolled over. Toledo police say Nicholas Martinez lost control and hit a decorative boulder. Rescue workers used the jaws of life to cut the 17-year-old free.

According to police, one of his passengers took off running. Investigators are still looking into how weather may have played a role in the crash.

On West Central and Jackman a pick-up truck collided with a snow plow. At the 280-75 interchange, another accident forced one car off the road.

BAY CITY, Mich. (AP) - Blowing snow and ice are blamed for poor road conditions that caused a reported 65-vehicle crash in Bay County and numerous other accidents across mid-Michigan.

Parts of Interstate 75 were closed late Friday afternoon south of Bay City.

The Saginaw News reported that traffic began to move again about 8 p.m. after wrecked vehicles were moved from the roadway.

Motorist Krista Ketterer told WEYI-TV that car parts were scattered along U.S. 10 in Bay County.

Dozens of accidents were reported in Genesee County due to the snow and ice. No serious injuries were reported. More than a dozen accidents were reported in St. Clair County.

National Weather Service meteorologist Dave Kook said Saginaw County received about three inches of snow Friday. Temperatures also dropped from the 30s into the mid-teens.
