CANTON TOWNSHIP, Mich. (AP) - Authorities say a blast of winter weather that sent temperatures plunging below zero in places and snow drifting in much of Michigan has claimed at least one life.
Canton Township police say their officers got a call Sunday morning about a crash on Interstate 275 in the western Wayne County community. Police say a vehicle spun out on an overpass and another vehicle hit it on the driver's side.
The department says a 58-year-old Belleville woman driving the first vehicle was killed.
The National Weather Service says this winter's unusually warm temperatures plunged sharply over the weekend, falling to minus 9 Saturday in Iron Mountain, minus 5 on Drummond Island and 2 above as far south as Lansing. Sunday's highs remained below freezing in most of the state.
