We're profiling the candidates in the 9th District congressional race. Joe Werzelbacher says he's just your average Joe and promises not to be your average politician.
On a cold February morning, a Republican candidate for Congress is knocking on doors. This candidate has talked politics before, with candidate Obama.
On that day, "Joe the Plumber" was made. Now he's Joe the politician.
"I'm not going up to Washington, DC to make friends," he says. "I'm going up there to get things done."
Werzelbacher is running as a Republican, but he says he's fed up with both parties, saying both Democrats and Republicans are more interest in politics than people and more focused on their own jobs then doing what's right for America.
Werzelbacher says what's right for America is tax reform.
"We can fix it," he says. "We can go to Herman Cain's bold plan of 9-9-9. We can go to the fair tax. We can go to the flat tax, but we got to get rid of this income tax that's killing small businesses in this community and corporations in general and shipping jobs overseas."
Joe blames both parties for bailouts and debt in the trillions and a paternalistic government that steals initiative and seeks to take care of everyone from cradle to grave.
He's running for a political office, but he promises to never be a politician.
Werzelbaher says fewer regulations will help spur business growth and also wants to simplify the tax code. He says he's just a frustrated American who wants to make a difference.
