Santorum in Steubenville, cancels Hillsdale visit

Posted: Updated:

Republican presidential candidate Rick Santorum was campaigning in Michigan Monday, but he wasn't at Hillsdale College. The Santorum campaign says the former Pennsylvania senator cancelled the appearance.

Instead, he spoke at a Kent County Lincoln Day dinner in Grand Rapids, Michigan.

There's no word yet from the campaign if the Hillsdale event will be rescheduled.

Earlier Monday, Santorum also spent time campaigning in Ohio. During a stop in Steubenville, Santorum talked about the importance of developing a coherent energy policy, particularly in light of rising gas prices.

"Here we are with just a budding recovery, and I know, as we see prices going up at the pump, folks who are just starting to breathe a little bit as the economy is coming back a little bit, all of the sudden, they are going to be hit with the same force of wind in 2008 in the summer that caused us to go into a recession," Santorum said. "All because of the radical environmentalist policies of this president."

Santorum says the president was wrong for pulling coal permits, rejecting the Keystone pipeline project, and putting obstacles in the way for drillers to go after oil shale.
