TOLEDO - Freshman guard Julius Brown has been named Mid-American Conference West Division Player of the Week, the league office announced today. Brown averaged 11.0 ppg, 6.5 apg and 3.5 rpg in addition to registering a 42.9 three-point FG% (3-of-7) and a 2.2 assist/turnover ratio.
Brown scored 10 points and dished out five assists in UT's 63-55 road win over Ball State and followed that up with 12 points, eight assists, six rebounds and a season-low one turnover in the Rockets' 59-58 victory at Sam Houston State. His six rebounds tied a season high, and he also knocked down a pair of free throws in the closing seconds to help UT secure its victory.
For the season, the Markham, IL native is averaging 11.5 points, 5.1 assists and 1.2 steals per game. Brown leads all MAC freshman in scoring, ranks fourth in the league with 5.1 assists per game and is also fourth nationally among freshman in assists per game.
Brown's honor is the fifth time a Rocket has been named MAC West Division Player of the Week this season and the fourth straight week a UT player has been recognized. Toledo's previous recipients were junior G Dominique Buckley (Dec. 5) and sophomore G Rian Pearson (Jan. 30, Feb. 6, Feb. 13).
