Toledo home destroyed after Molotov cocktail

Posted: Updated:
TOLEDO, Ohio -

A south Toledo family's home is gone after a Molotov cocktail attack. It happened in the 5600 block of Greenridge Drive in a neighborhood near Bernath and Airport Highway.

The home caught fire twice Tuesday morning.

Around 3:00 in the morning, fire crews were called to the two-story home. Firefighters on the scene say someone threw a Molotov cocktail at the front door, shattering a window and sparking the blaze.

A woman sleeping inside made it out safely just in time.

Crews put out the flames and left.

Hours later, fire broke out again at the same home. Crews came back around 10:00 a.m. and found heavy smoke and flames pouring out of the roof.

It's unclear what sparked the second blaze, but news of the potential crime has neighbors on edge.

Family members declined to go on camera, but they say the three children in the home happened to be staying with their grandmother at the time of the fires.

The home is a total loss and will be demolished.
