There is still no sign of gas prices taking a dip anytime soon. Some Florida drivers are spending nearly $6 per gallon to fill up their gas tanks! Although prices locally aren't that high, some analysts are saying prices could rise as high as $5 per gallon by this summer.
ToledoGasPrices.com says the national average for gas is $3.55. The cost for Toledo drivers is around $3.51. The cheapest gas around town is about $3.29.
Lucas County Auditor Anita Lopez polices the pumps in Lucas County to make sure consumers get what they pay for.
"The Lucas County Auditor's Office is responsible for inspecting every gas pump in the county," she says. "You can tell if it's been inspected recently. You will see the new blue and gold seal this year. We are trying to make our way out as fast as possible to inspect the pumps."
Lopez's office gets hundreds of complaints on its Weights and Measures web page from customers who say they were overcharged at gas stations.
She says sometimes it's not a matter of gas stations trying to rip you off. Often it's the result of mechanical problems with the dispenser.
Consumers can go to the auditor's website and take a look at the repeat offenders, as well as check complaint results.
"Please don't hesitate to call us," Lopez says. "We will go out there, and we will do our best to advocate for citizens."
