Casino donation for Rossford police dog

Posted: Updated:
ROSSFORD, Ohio -

The Rossford Police Department will get a new crime fighting tool thanks to the general manager at Hollywood Casino Toledo.

The casino has offered to give the police department more than $12,000 for a canine unit as part of a partnership to help fight crime in the area

Rossford's police chief will travel to Pennsylvania next week to tour the kennel where the department's new K-9 will be trained.

Last week, the general manager of Hollywood Casino called Rossford's mayor and offered to pay for the cost of the dog and training.

The chief says the dog will be used for searches.

"Narcotics detection, tracking suspects, also doing tracking for missing persons or children," he says.

The department will also purchase a new Chevrolet Tahoe truck with money confiscated from drug seizures. The new truck will cost $27,000 and will be outfitted with a special dog cage, which will cost about $4,500.

Rossford's canine unit could be patrolling the city by late May.
