Opening Game Day Preparation

Posted: Updated:
TOLEDO, Ohio -

For many Toledo Mud Hen Fans, opening day is just as much about the pre-game dining out and socializing as it is about watching the Hens play ball. Restaurants around Fifth-Third Field have come to expect a huge influx of business for the first game day and it takes a lot of preparation to handle the thousands that head into downtown Toledo.

"It takes-it's weeks prior just from scheduling and ordering all the food and ordering all beer in," Ed Beczynski, owner of the Blarney said.

Beczynski is in his 6th year of preparing for game day, so he's used to what it take to handle a large crowd. He said he's been sharing his knowledge with some of the newer restaurants around the ball park, like Ye Old Durty Bird.

Julie Ketterman and her sister just opened Ye Old Durty Bird about three weeks ago. She said they have 20 years experience in hospitality, but appreciate the support from opening day veteran restaurant owners.

"We have all the neighbors and businesses have been helping us and giving us input," Ketterman said. "We're very very excited."
